Details

    Description

      Task description

Following the instruction on the GDP Release Howto, create the release announcement:

      • Web version
      • Mail version: internal Codethink wiki Done here, not in Codethink wiki
      • Communicate it to GENIVI marketing for review.
      • Get approval from GENIVI marketing.
      • Redirection requested to GENIVI IT.
      • Redirection checked once IT has provided it. OSSFR-118
      • Check redirections on release announcements.

      Considerations

GENIVI IT needs to redirect the following link, http://projects.genivi.org/gdp/release_announcement currently pointing to the previous release announcmeent, in GENIVI Confluence, to the new release announcement. This redirection should be done at the same time that the images and metadata deployment.

The release announcement page has to be restricted to those who need to develop it and approve it: marketing (Linda and Mike), CEO, PMO, reneass, delivery team and community management.

It will be published at the release time by removing those restrictions.

      Main talking points

      1. GGDP 11 is easier than ever to install, build and run.
      2. GDP 11 is available for several Intel and ARM based development boards, more than ever before.
      3. GENIVI delivery project is today an open and collaborative environment, following the standards of any reputed FLOSS community.
      4. GDP brings the latest stable Open Source automotive software components integrated with the latest stable generic Linux based software provided by the Yocto project.
      5. GENIVI community is increasing. GDP has today more contributors than ever.
      6. The collaboration of GDP and meta-ivi, the outcome of GENIVI's compliance program, is more intense today than ever before since they are working on the same code.
      7. GENIVI delivery project is more efficient and transparent than ever before. In order to release GDP 11, several steps towards a continuous delivery model has been taken. More are coming for the next release.
      8. GENIVI covers more uses cases today than ever before. The addition of Master as deliverable provide developers a more bleeding edge platform where to build from scratch customised systems including the latest automotive specific software available. Master complements the more stable approach followed in GDP releases.

      Mail release announcement

The GENIVI Alliance is publishing a new release candidate, GDP 11 RC2[1], to improve the stability of the GENIVI Development Platform (GDP) base system while increasing the number of boards on which the GDP is available. The GDP 11 RC2 includes a number of bug fixes, improvements across the system and more stable ports to several development boards. GENIVI has decided to delay the full GDP 11 release to allow for the addition of a significant feature enhancement in the form of a new user interface and application launcher.

In order to enhance the user experience and to ease adding new applications to the GDP, the GENIVI Graphics Team has provided a brand new user experience which is being integrated into the GDP RC2. This significant feature enhancement will be highlighted at the upcoming GENIVI All Member Meeting (AMM) and will include a GENIVI-branded GUI and configurable application launcher. The updated GDP containing this new user experience will receive additional testing to gain the stability needed for a full release after the AMM.

GDP RC2 includes the latest bug fixes from meta-ivi along with a variety of other bug fixes and small improvements across the system with more stable ports to the development boards listed below. There is also a port to QEMU for those who want to take a quick look at what GDP base system is today.

      • Intel Minnowboard MAX
      • Raspberry Pi2 and 3
      • Qualcomm Dragonboard 410c

Those with Yocto knowledge can build this second release candidate from scratch from the GDP Master[2], where Renesas Porter and Silk are also supported. Please check the release announcement[2] for further information about this release.
