Investigate needed work to clean up .bbappends

We have quite a few bbappends to work-around issues. It would be nice to get the fixes upstream and drop these workarounds as much as possible.

Acceptance Criteria

• List every .bbappend
• Check content and evaluate if it's making sense
• Create tickets for all .bbappend that need changing or removing
• Start discussion and/or file tickets upstream if an append can be pushed out. If pending upstream, track with a new ticket also here.
• This cleanup probably needs repeating, so I add as a final AC to create a new ticket scheduled for the future to repeat this activity every 2 months or so.
